They're both very pretty lakes, but imo Brienz is the lovelier, especially if the weather is not so good. Brienz is a gprgeous green, and is even attractive in the rain; Thun is a vivid blue in the sunshine, but not so attractive in rain.

If you walk to the docking area from the Brunngasse, you can do so by a beautiful promenade which gives you stunning views over Lake Brienz. Lake Brienz is bluer than Lake Thun and we were very impressed with the views and the flower decorations of the promenade.

Just like the rest of Switzerland, Interlaken is expensive even by European standards. Hotels and restaurants are all pricey, although quality tends to be high.

Luzern is more comfortable, old money and beautiful setting on the lake. Interlaken is closer to the big mountains, hiking, etc. I prefer Interlaken, but Luzern is more comfortable for first time to Switzerland. I would not want to spend 4 hours on the train to commute from one to the other however.
