What is the new Avatar ride?

The ride employs 3D glasses and unique ride vehicles to create the illusion of flying on the back of a banshee; it's one of the most technologically advanced rides that Disney's Imagineers have ever produced. Read on to find out why this attraction remains a must-ride for Animal Kingdom visitors.

The "new" Avatar ride refers to a major expansion themed after James Cameron's Avatar franchise, specifically planned for the Disneyland Resort in California. Unlike the existing "Pandora – The World of Avatar" at Disney's Animal Kingdom in Florida—which features the Flight of Passage and Na'vi River Journey—this new California iteration is described by Disney Imagineering as an entirely new experience inspired by the later films, including Avatar: The Way of Water. While specific ride mechanics are under wraps, concept art suggests a high-scale boat-based adventure that explores the oceans of Pandora. It is expected to push the boundaries of "physical" sets combined with cutting-edge projection mapping. This addition is part of the "Disneyland Forward" initiative, aiming to bring the same level of immersive storytelling found in Florida to the West Coast, ensuring that fans of the franchise have a fresh reason to visit the Anaheim parks in the coming years.

It is not scary, but it is thrilling and intense. My motion sensitivity was definitely impacted and I needed to be outside in the fresh air for about an hour afterwards to come back down from the rush.
