The oldest operating ride at Knott's Berry Farm is the Timber Mountain Log Ride, which opened in 1969. While there are older attractions and historical structures in the Ghost Town area—such as the Butterfield Stagecoach (which began operation in 1949)—the Log Ride is widely considered the park's first major themed "ride" in the modern sense. It was a pioneering "log flume" that set a high standard for immersion, featuring detailed animatronics and a 42-foot drop. Another contender for "oldest" is the Calico Mine Train, which opened in 1960 and underwent a massive refurbishment in 2014 to preserve its classic feel. If you count the Merry-Go-Round, it was actually built by Dentzel in 1902 and moved to Knott's in 1955, making the physical machine the oldest in the park. Most enthusiasts, however, point to the Log Ride as the quintessential "classic" that defined the park's transition from a roadside stand into a world-class theme destination.
