What kind of shoes do you wear to Cliffs of Moher?

Sturdy, Weatherproof Shoes: Hiking boots, hiking shoes, or even rain boots with a good non-skid sole are perfect for the Cliffs of Moher. Your shoes WILL get dirty and there are many spots on the cliffs that are slick due to the mud.

When visiting the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland, the most important footwear requirement is traction and water resistance. The paths along the cliffs are a mix of paved stone and wild, grassy trails that are frequently muddy and slick due to Ireland's unpredictable rain and sea mist. You should wear sturdy hiking boots or high-quality trail running shoes with a deep "lug" pattern on the sole to prevent slipping. Even if you stay on the main paved areas, the wind can be intense, so shoes with good ankle support are a plus. Avoid wearing white sneakers, flip-flops, or high heels, as they will likely be ruined by mud and offer zero grip on the uneven terrain. If you plan to hike the full "Coastal Walk" from Doolin or Hag's Head, waterproof Gore-Tex shoes are highly recommended to keep your feet dry. Remember, the cliffs are essentially a natural outdoor environment, so prioritize function over fashion to ensure you can safely enjoy the spectacular 700-foot views.
