What time is dinner served on VIA Rail?

Dinner: 17:00-19:00 No entitlement if departure is at or after 18:30 (local time). (Exception for train 14 passengers departing from Montreal and St. Lambert will be entitled to dinner)

On VIA Rail's long-distance trains like The Canadian (Toronto–Vancouver) and The Ocean (Montreal–Halifax), dinner is typically served between 17:00 and 19:00 (5:00 PM to 7:00 PM). Meal entitlement for Sleeper Plus and Prestige passengers depends strictly on departure time; for instance, you are generally not entitled to dinner if your train departs at or after 18:30. Dinner service in the dining car is often conducted in "sittings" to accommodate all passengers, and you may be asked to choose a preferred time slot earlier in the day. The menu usually features a selection of three courses, including a meat, fish, and vegetarian option, paired with Canadian wines. For Economy Class passengers, meals are not included but can be purchased from the service cart or café car, which operates throughout the day and evening, offering a variety of hot and cold snacks, sandwiches, and beverages.
