In 2017, the attraction "Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon" took the place of the "Twister... Ride It Out" attraction in the New York section of Universal Studios Florida. The Twister attraction, which used practical effects like wind, fire, and a "flying cow" to simulate a tornado, closed in late 2015 after a 17-year run. The replacement is a high-capacity 3D motion simulator that takes guests on a zany race through the streets (and skies) of New York City against the host of The Tonight Show. While some nostalgic fans miss the "tactile" feel of the original practical effects, the Jimmy Fallon attraction introduced several modern innovations to the park, most notably the "Virtual Queue" system, which allows guests to relax in a lounge themed after NBC’s history rather than standing in a traditional outdoor line. Interestingly, the ride contains several "Easter eggs" paying tribute to Twister, including a small blue shirt belonging to the late Bill Paxton visible in the pre-show area.
