The best time to visit Angel Falls in Venezuela is during the rainy season, which typically runs from June to November. During these months, the Orinoco and Carrao rivers are high enough to allow the motorized wooden canoes (curiaras) to navigate deep into Canaima National Park to reach the base of the falls. This is also when the falls are at their most powerful and spectacular, often shrouded in dramatic mist. Specifically, August and September are considered the peak months for the most impressive water flow. If you visit during the dry season (December to April), the water level can drop so significantly that the falls may become a mere trickle, and river access becomes impossible, leaving you with only the much more expensive option of a flyover. However, keep in mind that the rainy season also means more cloud cover, which can sometimes obscure the view of the summit of Auyán-tepui. October is often cited as a "sweet spot" where the rains begin to subside but the river levels remain high enough for boat tours, offering a perfect balance for photography.
