Where do you park to see the monuments at night in DC?

Along Constitution Avenue near 23rd St., you'll also find close parking for the Lincoln and the Vietnam Memorial as well. Constitution around 17th St. would be good for the WW2 memorial, and also for an up-close look at the Washington Monument (no entry at night).

The best place to park for a nighttime tour of the DC monuments is along Ohio Drive SW or in the designated lots near the Tidal Basin. At night, street parking becomes significantly easier to find along Constitution Avenue (near the Lincoln and Vietnam Veterans Memorials) and Independence Avenue. Most metered spots in these areas become free after 6:30 PM or 10:00 PM (check local signs for 2026 updates). For the Jefferson Memorial, there are two large public parking lots (Lots A and B) located on Ohio Drive that are usually empty after dark. Another great hack is to park near the MLK Jr. Memorial along the Tidal Basin. Because the National Mall is quite spread out, many visitors prefer to park near the Lincoln Memorial and walk the "loop" around the Reflecting Pool. Just be sure to avoid areas marked for "Permit Only" or "Official Business," as DC parking enforcement is famously vigilant even late at night.

Safety isn't really much of an issue around the monuments at anytime and the later you go, the more likely you'll be to have fewer people around. We've enjoyed many an evening at the monuments after 11pm, many times as the only ones there (which is more likely in the winter than in other times of the year).
