Where does Redwood Highway start and end?

This drive starts at the Oregon border on US-199 and travels south until it joins the US-101 for a coastal scenic drive. Heading south on US-101, our drive ends in Leggett.

The 45-mile Direct Route will take around 1 hour 15 minutes to complete if you drive straight through Redwood National Park without stopping. We'd always suggest leaving a lot longer than this - at least half a day but ideally more - since there are so many stunning views to enjoy en route.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO DRIVE AVENUE OF THE GIANTS: The full avenue will take about 2.5 hours, and that's without stopping to take pictures or hiking the groves. If you can, plan on spending half a day to get the most out of Avenue of the Giants.

Arcata is the biggest major city near Redwood National Forest. Only 1 hour and 10 minutes from the national park, many visitors choose to stay in this big city when they visit the national park. Eureka and Crescent City are also close cities to Redwood National Forest.

There is no fee to enter Humboldt Redwoods State Park. It is free, therefore, to drive the Avenue. The southern end of the Avenue is located north of Garberville, California, at Exit 645. The northern end is located south of Scotia, California, at Exit 674.

The Redwood Sky Walk is just under 1/4 mile to the end and back (1,104 linear feet), stretched out across a network of suspended bridges that reach across and through old-growth and mature second-growth redwood trees. It is the longest sky walk in the western United States.
