As of early 2026, the world's largest cruise ship construction is taking place at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland, where Royal Caribbean's third "Icon-class" vessel is being assembled. Simultaneously, China is making high-value strides in the industry; the Adora Flora City, China’s second homegrown large cruise ship, is currently being finalized at the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding yard and is scheduled for delivery by the end of 2026. This 141,900-ton vessel represents a massive leap in "green" marine engineering, featuring advanced desulfurization and denitrification systems. While the Finnish-built Icon-class ships remain the absolute "heavyweights" in terms of gross tonnage and passenger capacity, the Shanghai-built Adora ships represent a new, high-value era of "domestically built" luxury for the Asian market, shifting the center of gravity for global ship construction.
