Where to start in Redwood National Park?

Redwoods Itinerary – Day 1 If you're game, you could hike all 3 trails by starting with Tall Trees Grove and ending with Prairie Creek and Foothill Loop. This would make for a total of 7 miles of hiking and you will have seen some of the most magical areas in the entire country!

Park Entrances Many visitors are surprised to discover that there are no formal entrance stations, or even entrance fees at Redwood National Park. In fact, US-101 (known in these parts as the Redwood Highway) runs the entire length of the park.

Best Scenic Drive in Redwoods National Park Bald Hills Road is a great scenic drive to do for a peaceful and beautiful drive. This road gives you access to the Lady Bird Johnson Grove Trail and the Tall Trees Grove Trail which are beautiful trails to go on to see more of the Redwoods National Park.

Arcata is the biggest major city near Redwood National Forest. Only 1 hour and 10 minutes from the national park, many visitors choose to stay in this big city when they visit the national park. Eureka and Crescent City are also close cities to Redwood National Forest.

Where is the drive-through tree? There are no trees in the parks you can drive through. However, there are three coast redwoods you may drive through in California. One is a few minutes drive from middle of the park - in Klamath.

While hikes abound, you can also soar through the forest on the SkyTrail gondola in the center of the park. Don't miss the drive along the lush 32-mile Avenue of the Giants in Humboldt Redwoods State Park where you can catch sight of the albino redwoods that survive with help from healthy trees.

The 45-mile Direct Route will take around 1 hour 15 minutes to complete if you drive straight through Redwood National Park without stopping. We'd always suggest leaving a lot longer than this - at least half a day but ideally more - since there are so many stunning views to enjoy en route.
