Where was Firehawk at Kings Island?

Firehawk was a flying coaster located in the Coney Mall-X-Base (now known as Area 72) section at Kings Island. It was the first coaster to be constructed in the park since Cedar Fair took over operations in 2006. Firehawk originally operated under the name of X-Flight at Geauga Lake from 2001 to 2006.

Firehawk was located in the Area 72 (formerly X-Base) section of Kings Island, positioned near the back of the park. It sat specifically between the Flight of Fear indoor coaster and the woods that now house the massive giga-coaster, Orion. Firehawk was a "flying" coaster manufactured by Vekoma, where riders were tilted back to a laying position before being flipped over to face the ground during the ride. It originally operated at Geauga Lake as X-Flight before being moved to Kings Island in 2007. The ride was a staple of the park's thrill lineup for over a decade until it was demolished in late 2018. The land it occupied was essential for the construction of Orion, which opened in 2020. Today, in 2026, fans can still see "tributes" to Firehawk within the Area 72 theming, including references to its "prototype" status in the queue lines for the newer rides. Its removal was controversial among coaster enthusiasts, but it was ultimately deemed necessary due to its high maintenance costs and the desire for a more reliable, high-capacity attraction.
