While all five villages of the Cinque Terre are on the coast, Monterosso al Mare is the only one with a large, traditional sandy beach complete with umbrellas and "lido" facilities. It is the most popular choice for sunbathing. Vernazza has a very small, sandy harbor beach and a secondary pebbly beach accessible through a cave-like tunnel. Riomaggiore has a rocky, pebbled beach located to the south of the marina, which is great for clear water but requires sturdy shoes. Manarola and Corniglia do not have traditional beaches; instead, visitors in Manarola swim by jumping off rocks into a deep-water harbor, while Corniglia requires a long descent to a rocky cove.
