In case you want to travel with your car to Hvar, we recommend taking the Jadrolinija car ferry from Split to the port of Stari Grad (30 minutes by car from Hvar Town).



Choosing the "best" ferry from Split to Hvar depends on whether you are traveling with a car or as a foot passenger. For those without a vehicle, the Jadrolinija or Krilo catamarans (Fast Ferries) are the superior choice, as they take only about 55 to 65 minutes and dock directly in the heart of Hvar Town. This allows you to step off the boat and be at your hotel or a café within minutes. If you are driving, you must take the large car ferry to Stari Grad, which takes approximately 2 hours. From Stari Grad, it is a 20-minute drive across the island to reach Hvar Town. In 2026, it is a high-priority recommendation to book your tickets online at least 24 to 48 hours in advance during the summer months, as these routes are incredibly popular and frequently sell out. There are two companies, Jadrolinija and Krilo ticket shops are ~150m one from another. In Split you can buy tickets only on the day of departure and in Hvar you can buy tickets a day before. Beware, sometimes tickets can be sold out even a day before in 7.30h in morning !!.
