Patients with moderate illness may be treated with antibiotics, with or without adjunctive loperamide. Timely and effective self-treatment with antibiotics in moderate TD reduces the duration of illness to approximately 36 hours, with further reduction to less than 12 hours from combination therapy with loperamide.
