Which trains are free with Swiss pass?

Journeys to Rigi (either by boat/rail), Stoos and CabriO Stanserhorn are free of charge with the Swiss Travel Pass. Other excursions (Titlis, Matterhorn, and Jungfrau Railway, to name a few) require a separate fee and seat reservation.

The Swiss Travel Pass offers incredible value by making nearly all public transportation in Switzerland "free" or fully covered. This includes all SBB (Swiss Federal Railways) trains that connect major cities like Zurich, Geneva, Bern, and Lucerne. Crucially, it also covers the world-famous Panoramic Express trains, such as the Glacier Express, Bernina Express, Gotthard Panorama Express, and the GoldenPass Line. While the "ticket" cost for these scenic routes is 100% covered by the pass, passengers must still pay a separate seat reservation fee, which is mandatory on these specific high-demand trains. Beyond the inter-city and scenic rails, the pass also includes free travel on local "PostBus" routes, lake steamers (boats), and urban transit like trams and buses in over 90 cities. Most high-altitude mountain excursions like the Jungfraujoch or Mt. Pilatus are not "free" but are offered at a 25% to 50% discount with the pass. The exception is Mt. Rigi and Stanserhorn, which in 2026 remain fully covered (free) for Swiss Travel Pass holders.
