The Deutschlandticket (which has increased to €63 per month as of January 2026) covers all local and regional public transport but excludes long-distance high-speed trains. Specifically, you cannot use it on ICE (Intercity Express), IC (Intercity), or EC (EuroCity) trains operated by Deutsche Bahn. It is also not valid on private long-distance carriers like FlixTrain. The ticket is strictly for "Nahverkehr" (local transport), including RB (Regionalbahn), RE (Regional-Express), S-Bahn, U-Bahn, trams, and buses. If you attempt to board an ICE with only a Deutschlandticket, you will be considered a passenger without a valid ticket and face a high fine. Always check the "DB Navigator" app; if the connection involves a "Fernverkehr" (long-distance) segment, your subscription will not cover that specific train.
