In 2026, the UK's automated ePassport gates (e-gates) are available to travelers aged 10 and older (those aged 10–17 must be accompanied by an adult) who hold a biometric "chipped" passport. Eligible nationalities include British citizens, citizens of the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland, as well as nationals from Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, and the USA. Members of the "Registered Traveller" service from other countries may also be eligible. Importantly, as of February 25, 2026, all visitors from non-visa countries (like the US and Canada) must also have a valid Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) linked to their passport before they can use the e-gates or even board their flight to the UK.
