The engines for the Airbus A330 family are produced by three of the world's leading aerospace manufacturers, depending on the specific model. For the original A330ceo (Current Engine Option), airlines could choose between the General Electric CF6-80E1, the Pratt & Whitney PW4000, or the Rolls-Royce Trent 700. However, for the newer A330neo (New Engine Option), which includes the A330-800 and A330-900 models delivering in 2026, Airbus moved to an exclusive engine agreement. The A330neo is powered solely by the Rolls-Royce Trent 7000. This engine is a high-bypass turbofan that leverages technology from the Trent XWB (used on the A350) to provide a 14% improvement in fuel burn per seat compared to previous generations. These engines are massive, with a fan diameter of 112 inches, and are designed to be significantly quieter and more environmentally friendly, helping airlines meet the stricter carbon emission standards that are being implemented across the global aviation industry in the mid-2020s.
