Why do you need a lanyard at Disney?

There is never a need to use a lanyard or to have your Disney tickets visible in any way. Most people do as I do and keep them in a pocket or something like that. It's just that some people (a minority of people) find it convenient and/or fashionable to wear their tickets in a holder at the end of a lanyard.
