Due to school being out of session, Walt Disney World has something of a captive audience during the summer months as many families can only visit then. Disney only offers discounts in order to fill hotel rooms and entice more guests to visit.

Disney World and Disneyland are exceptionally busy in June because it marks the official start of the North American summer vacation. As school years across the United States wrap up in late May and early June, families immediately flood the parks for their annual summer trips. June is statistically the third busiest month of the year, trailing only the peak December holidays and Spring Break in March. Many families choose June over July or August because the Florida heat, while intense, is perceived as slightly more tolerable than the "treacherous" humidity of late summer, and the risk of major hurricanes is statistically lower. Furthermore, June is often when Disney debuts new attractions and summer entertainment to capitalize on the high volume of visitors. Despite near-daily afternoon thunderstorms, the combination of long park hours and the "first-look" at new summer offerings keeps the crowds at a "moderate-to-heavy" level throughout the month.
