Why is Terminal 1 at CDG closed?

The first terminal of the Paris Nord airport under construction for almost 3 years. On 30 March 2020, Terminal 1 at Paris-CDG airport closed due to the Covid-19 crisis.

As of 2026, Terminal 1 at Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) is not closed, but it has recently undergone a period of intense renovation and is currently part of a massive signage overhaul. In early 2026, the airport began the process of renumbering and renaming its terminals to eliminate the confusing "2A, 2E, 2F" system. While Terminal 1 (the iconic "Camembert" circular building) remains open for many international and Star Alliance carriers, travelers may find certain hallways or satellite gate areas temporarily cordoned off for modernization work. The goal of the 2026 project is to create a more "consecutive" and logical passenger flow, preparing for the full transition to a new numbering system (Terminal 1 through Terminal 7) that will be finalized by early 2027. Always check your specific airline's check-in details, as many carriers have shifted gates during this transition.
