Will Disney stop making Star Wars?

There aren't many films that give their legions of fans that magic feeling when they start to roll on a giant, silver screen, but Star Wars is one of them. Disney isn't stopping its Star Wars shows; quite the contrary, in fact.

As of 2026, Disney and Lucasfilm have absolutely no plans to stop making Star Wars content; in fact, the franchise's production schedule is more robust than it has been in years. Following the success of several Disney+ series, the franchise is making a massive return to the big screen with "The Mandalorian & Grogu," scheduled for release in May 2026. This film serves as the first Star Wars theatrical release since 2019. Beyond this, multiple other films are in various stages of active development, including a "New Jedi Order" film featuring the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey, a "Dawn of the Jedi" project by James Mangold, and a Dave Filoni-led film that will conclude the story arcs of the "Mando-verse" series. On the television front, Disney+ continues to be a hub for the franchise with upcoming seasons of "Ahsoka" and new animated projects. Disney views Star Wars as a cornerstone of its "perpetual" intellectual property strategy, ensuring that new stories will continue to be told across movies, streaming, theme parks, and merchandise for the foreseeable future.
