As of early 2026, there are no plans to "permanently" retheme the original Space Mountain at Walt Disney World or Disneyland Park in California; it remains a cornerstone of Tomorrowland's mid-century "future" aesthetic. However, Hong Kong Disneyland is currently undergoing "operational adjustments" as of February 2026 that may see its long-standing Star Wars "Hyperspace Mountain" overlay removed in favor of a return to the classic space theme. Furthermore, the Tokyo Disneyland version of Space Mountain is currently in the middle of a massive, multi-year total reconstruction project. The original 1983 structure was closed in 2024 and is being replaced by an entirely new, state-of-the-art attraction and plaza scheduled to open in 2027. While it will still be called "Space Mountain," it will feature a completely new track, high-tech effects, and a more "organic" architectural design. So, while the brand of Space Mountain is staying, the physical experience is being radically updated in Japan, while the US parks continue to rely on seasonal overlays (like the Star Wars or Ghost Galaxy themes) rather than a permanent retheme.
