The original rustic cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground have not permanently "closed" in terms of the resort losing that accommodation type, but they have undergone a massive transformation. In 2024 and 2025, Disney replaced the old wooden units with all-new, modern Disney Vacation Club (DVC) cabins. These new units feature floor-to-ceiling windows, private decks, and contemporary "Northwest-chic" interiors that sleep up to six guests. While some long-time fans miss the "log cabin" aesthetic of the 1970s and 80s, the new cabins offer significantly improved amenities, including full kitchens and expanded living spaces. As of early 2026, most of these new units are fully operational and available for both DVC members and regular cash guests to book. However, travelers should be aware that portions of the resort may still experience minor refurbishment work or landscaping updates through mid-2026, particularly around the Meadow Swimmin' Pool area. The resort remains one of Disney's most unique properties, offering a tranquil escape into the Florida wilderness while maintaining proximity to the Magic Kingdom via boat.
