If you want to take the monorail, you need to walk from the Boardwalk to the back entrance of EPCOT. You have to walk to the front entrance of EPCOT and take the monorail there. That is sbout 20 minutes. You do not need to use the monorail if you do not want too.
The Boardwalk also provides the best location from the standpoint of getting to the parks. While the Beach Club is marginally closer to Epcot, the difference is negligible, but it is MUCH closer to the Studios.
