Can you drive your car around Fort Wilderness?

Basic Laws of Navigation in Fort Wilderness You can no longer drive your car around to explore (and there's no place to park anyway), the trams are gone, and the train has long, long vanished (sad face). So your options for moving about are: golf cart (best option!) – rent or bring your own.

While you are permitted to drive your car into Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground to reach your specific campsite or cabin, general internal driving is strictly prohibited. The resort is designed to be a "low-traffic" sanctuary for pedestrians and cyclists. Once you have parked your vehicle at your designated site, it is expected to stay there for the duration of your visit. For transportation within the resort—which is massive and spans over 750 acres—Disney provides a dedicated internal bus system that connects the campsites to the Settlement (dining and marina) and the Outpost (check-in and bus depot). However, the most iconic way to get around is by renting a golf cart, which has its own dedicated parking at almost every major amenity. You are not allowed to drive your personal car to the Meadow Trading Post, the pool, or the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue; if you try, you will find no parking available for standard vehicles. This policy helps maintain the peaceful, rustic atmosphere that makes the "Fort" a unique Disney destination.

Disney says that buses run about every 20 minutes to each destination, but our experience has been that they often come at shorter intervals. One of our favorite ways to get around Disney World is by boat, and Wilderness Lodge is one of the best places to do it.
