Can you stay overnight at Toronto Island?

Can I camp overnight on the Toronto Islands? Officially, no. Unofficially, many people do. Some schools and youth organizations can get special permission to camp on Snake Island.

While Toronto Island Park is a popular day-trip destination, staying overnight is limited to very specific options, as traditional hotels or campgrounds do not exist on the islands. In 2026, the most common way to stay overnight is through licensed Bed and Breakfasts located in the residential communities of Ward's Island and Algonquin Island. These charming, privately owned homes offer a unique, quiet escape from the city, but they are extremely few in number and often book up months in advance for the summer season. There is no public camping allowed on the islands, and the park officially "closes" to the general public when the last ferry departs around 11:30 PM, though residents and their guests remain. Another unique option is staying on a private boat at one of the marinas, such as the Royal Canadian Yacht Club or the Island Yacht Club, provided you are a member or have transient docking privileges. For most visitors, the "island stay" remains an elusive experience, making the day-trip via the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal the standard way to enjoy the beaches and the Centreville Amusement Park.
