Does Disney World run out of Genie Plus?

Genie+ rides are not guaranteed. The most popular rides can run out of available Genie+ Lightning Lane selections. We usually see this later in the day for most attractions. However, the most popular ones can run out within minutes during busier periods.



As of late 2024, Disney World transitioned from "Genie+" to the Lightning Lane Multi Pass system, and yes, it can sell out. While it doesn't "run out" in a physical sense, Disney limits the number of passes sold each day to manage crowd flow and ensure that those who purchase the service actually get to experience a reasonable number of attractions. On peak days like Christmas, New Year's, or spring break, the service can sell out quite early in the morning. In 2026, Disney Resort guests have the advantage of being able to purchase and make their first three selections 7 days in advance, while all other guests can only do so 3 days in advance. This means that for the most popular dates, the "capacity" for these passes may be nearly reached before off-site guests even get a chance to buy them.

On the Disney Genie+ Service webpage that I linked, it does indicate that on average guests experience about two to three attractions per day with Lightening Lanes using Disney Genie+ Service. However, this is an average, and as long as you stay within the guidelines I mentioned above, you are good to go!

Guests are officially no longer using any ticket that included Genie+ ticket add-on ahead of time. With this change, as of June 27th, 2023, guests in Disney World will be able to buy Genie+ based on what (and how many) parks they want to visit. In other words, Genie+ pricing will actually be PARK SPECIFIC and your purchase will either be for a single park or multiple parks.

The Genie 120-minute rule says that you can make a new reservation at most 2 hours from when you made the last one, and this countdown timer doesn't change if you modify the reservation. If you made it at, say, 11 a.m., then your two hours will be up at 1 p.m. even if you modify the reservation at noon.

Lightning Lane grants you access to entirely separate queues. Be aware that Genie+ doesn't provide instant, unlimited access to Lightning Lanes. Instead, once you've made your purchase, you'll be able to select return times one at a time.

Purchasing the Disney Genie+ gives guests access to book the Lightning Lane for Genie+ rides at Disney World in the My Disney Experience app. That means shorter wait time with access to a separate lane than standby guests. This is the replacement for the Disney Fastpass 2023, but with a fee.

If you miss your Genie+ Lightning Lane reservation for an attraction, that's it for the day. You won't be able to make another one for that particular ride. Sometimes you'll be given a small grace period, but that's up to the discretion of the Cast Member.
