Does Jones Beach get crowded?

Jones Beach State Park is a state park in the U.S. state of New York. It is located in southern Nassau County on Jones Beach Island, a barrier island linked to Long Island by the Meadowbrook State Parkway, Wantagh State Parkway, and Ocean Parkway.

Field 2 is west of the roundabout and is more quiet then the other beach areas, but it is a long walk.

Enjoy this 3.9-mile out-and-back trail near Wantagh, New York. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 1 h 8 min to complete. This is a popular trail for hiking, road biking, and running, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day.

The Jones Beach Boardwalk traverses Jones Beach State Park, running parallel (and south of) Ocean Parkway. The pleasant pathway offers views of the beach and the ocean. Although bicycles are permitted, pedestrians have the right of way and bicyclists should dismount in crowded areas.

Jones Beach only has the boardwalk concessions--burgers, fries, ice cream, etc. Long Beach had a FANTASTIC board walk that was completely destroyed last year in Hurricane Sandy (it is currently being re-built, a small portion should be open this summer.) Jones Beach had some damage, but most of the board walk is open.

Parking on weekdays (Monday through Friday) is free throughout the year, but fees apply on weekends and holidays.

The beach and boardwalk is accessed by walking through the pedestrian tunnel under Ocean Parkway. Entrance to this tunnel is in the southeast corner of the parking area. Coming into Jones Beach State Park from Wantagh State Parkway southbound, Parking Field 4 is the first parking area available.

Jones Beach State Park's top attraction has always been swimming. The park offers fine surf bathing along 6.5 miles of ocean beach, one-half mile of bay beach for stillwater bathing, and two swimming pools.
