Does Kings Dominion still have the grizzly?

On May 16, 2023 While the essence of the The Grizzly remains to same, Kings Dominion – located in Doswell, Virginia – has upped the ante with the new and improved version of this well-loved wooden coaster which first opened in 1982.

Yes, The Grizzly is still a centerpiece attraction at Kings Dominion in Doswell, Virginia, and it recently underwent a massive restoration to ensure it remains a fan favorite for years to come. In 2023, the park completed a multi-year project with "The Gravity Group" to perform extensive "re-tracking" and structural work on the wooden coaster. This project involved replacing large sections of the 1982-era wood with modern, smoother track and reprofiling certain turns to enhance the ride's famous "wild" and aggressive feel without the "neck-snapping" roughness that older wooden coasters sometimes develop. The Grizzly is tucked away in the back of the "Old Virginia" section of the park, hidden deep in the woods, which adds to its legendary atmosphere—especially during night rides. Despite the rise of high-tech steel giga-coasters like Intimidator 305, The Grizzly remains a beloved "old school" woodie that provides a classic, thundering experience that modern coasters simply cannot replicate.
