How to Get Refunds
- Amtrak.com or Amtrak Mobile App: Most tickets purchased online can be canceled and refunded online.
- Phone: Refunds may be processed by calling 1-800-USA-RAIL (1-800-872-7245).
- Amtrak Stations: Refunds may be processed at stations with Amtrak ticket offices.
Refunds: Full refund to original form of payment with no fees if canceled 121 days or more before departure. Refund to original form of payment with 25% fee charged if canceled 120 to 15 days before departure. Within 14 days of departure, only refundable to non-refundable eVoucher with a 25% cancellation fee.

If your train is delayed or cancelled and you choose not to travel, your unused ticket can be refunded without any fees by the original retailer. If you bought your ticket from a train company, you can find their contact information on our Find a Train Company page.

Re: How does Amtrak handle cancelled trains? Generally, if you have started your travel and canceled connecting train, they will get you to your destination at no extra cost. If you have not started your trip, they may just give you your money back and send you on your way (maybe help you with an airline reservation).
