How late can you visit Cliffs of Moher?

The Cliffs of Moher are stunning! The visitor centre is excellent. It is conveniently open late (at least in August 2021) until 9 pm which allows a good day in Clare/Aran Islands etc and then a trip to see the Cliffs at Sunset. The design of the centre – built into the hillside – is very clever.

The Cliffs of Moher operate under a tiered schedule that changes with the seasons to maximize the long daylight hours of the Irish summer. During the peak season (May through August), the Visitor Centre and official car park are open as late as 9:00 PM, allowing travelers to experience the "Golden Hour" when the sun sets over the Atlantic. In the shoulder months of March, April, September, and October, the facilities typically close at 7:00 PM. During the winter (November to February), the site closes much earlier, around 5:00 PM, due to limited light and safety concerns. While the official Visitor Experience has these set hours, the cliffs themselves are a natural feature; however, walking the trails after dark is extremely dangerous and strictly discouraged. For the best experience in 2026, arriving about 90 minutes before the official closing time allows you to catch the sunset after the large tour buses have departed, providing a much quieter and more atmospheric view of the 700-foot drops and the distant Aran Islands without the midday crowds.
