If you must see everything, plan on all day (6-7 hours). If you center on covering maybe 65%, you can probably do it in 5 hours. If you are hot on certain attractions, maybe only 3 hours.

Pretty good place to visit if you are nature lover. We have visited both safari park & zoo in san diego and both are worth spending time as they have a little different habitat. Safari have a bus ride which takes you into a different experience of riding you through different habitats and showing different animals.
There will be a lot of walking, so choose a path that will take you near a show around showtime. There are multiple playgrounds and shady areas to rest. Just like an expedition into the wild, you will need to take some provisions with you to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.
Regardless of the time of year, the best time of day to visit is in the morning as the animals tend to be most active then, before the temperatures reach afternoon highs. Tip: To avoid crowds, plan to visit the park on a weekday if possible.
Other disadvantages of safari parks include habituation, which can cause wildlife to lose their natural instincts, and animals can even risk contracting human disease if people are able to pet, touch, and take selfies with them.
The distance is about 35 miles. I don't recommend that you try to visit both parks on the same day. If you are short on time during your San Diego vacation, I would choose one or the other.
