How many European countries honor the Eurail Pass?

The Eurail Pass, introduced in 1959 and formerly known as Europass or Eurorail Pass, is a rail pass which permits travel through 33 European countries on nearly all railroads and several shipping lines.

As of 2026, the Eurail Global Pass is honored by 33 different European countries, making it one of the most flexible ways to explore the continent. This network covers nearly all of Western, Central, and Southern Europe, as well as parts of Eastern Europe. Participating countries include popular giants like France, Italy, Germany, and Spain, along with hidden gems like Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The pass also includes travel on select ferry lines between Italy and Greece. It is important to remember that while the pass "honors" travel in these countries, many high-speed and night trains in countries like France and Italy require a paid seat reservation in addition to your pass. The Eurail Pass is specifically for non-European residents; if you are a resident of Europe, you would use the nearly identical Interrail Pass. Whether you want to see the fjords of Norway or the beaches of Portugal, the pass provides a single "gateway" ticket to over 30,000 destinations across the vast majority of the European rail network.
