The Boeing 787 Dreamliner family consists of three primary commercial passenger variants: the 787-8, the 787-9, and the 787-10. The 787-8 is the shortest model, designed to carry approximately 242-248 passengers over a range of 7,305 nautical miles; it was the first to enter service in 2011. The 787-9 is a stretched version that typically seats around 290-296 passengers and has a longer range of 7,565 nautical miles, making it the most popular choice for long-haul routes. The 787-10 is the largest member, seating up to 336 passengers, but it has a slightly shorter range (6,330 nautical miles) because it prioritizes capacity over extreme distance. In addition to these three standard versions, Boeing offers "Boeing Business Jet" (BBJ) configurations of the -8 and -9 for private and government use. While there were early discussions about a "787-3" for short-range high-density domestic routes (particularly for the Japanese market), that project was eventually canceled, leaving the current lineup at three distinct commercial production models.
