How scary is the mummy ride at Universal Orlando?

How scary is Revenge of the Mummy? We rate Revenge of the Mummy four out of five Imhoteps in terms of fear factor. While it's not the most intense coaster, it is in the dark with plenty of surprising special effects.

Revenge of the Mummy at Universal Studios Florida is considered a "medium-intensity" thrill ride, but most of its "scare factor" comes from psychological tension and jump scares rather than extreme coaster mechanics. The ride features sudden launches, high-speed banked turns, and a section where the ride vehicle travels backward in total darkness. Because it is an indoor coaster, the lack of visibility makes the drops feel more significant than they actually are (the largest drop is only about 25 feet). The theming includes "scary" elements like mummies popping out, swarms of scarab beetles (using tactile "leg-tickler" effects), and impressive pyrotechnics that blast real heat onto the riders. It is often rated a 4 out of 5 for fear by theme park enthusiasts because of the "spooky" atmosphere, but since it does not go upside down, it is much less intense than coasters like Hulk or Velocicoaster. If you can handle Space Mountain, you can likely handle the Mummy.

Universal Studios Florida Revenge of the Mummy is functionally and stylistically fairly similar to Escape from Gringotts. Determining which of the two is more intense is really a coin flip. In my opinion, Revenge of the Mummy has slightly more intense coaster moments with a slightly scarier setting and storyline.

In our opinion, the VelociCoaster is without a doubt the most intense ride at Universal Orlando Resort which is the main reason why we graded it a 10/10 on the thrill scale above. This Jurassic Park-inspired roller coaster shoots riders through two launches, clocking in at over 70 MPH.

Similar to The Simpsons Ride, the simulator elements of Race Through New York can definitely aggravate the stomachs of those prone to motion sickness. On top of that, the ride uses 3D glasses, which as we've previously established can also wreck havoc with “weak” stomachs.

Our pick for the scariest ride at Disney World is the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, located at Disney's Hollywood Studios. This ride encompasses so many different elements of fear that it's likely to find at least one way — if not multiple ways — to unnerve everybody who rides it.

No need to worry. If your son is tall enough to ride, he won't have a problem, unless he simply gets scared. There are no big drops on Space Mtn.; only small short ones (at least 3 or 4). The scariest part is the dark and if you're not in the front, you really can't see where your going.
