Is Disney discontinuing MagicBands?

They come in so many fun colors and designs, so it's hard to choose which one to get! MagicBands are still around and can be purchased practically anywhere at Walt Disney World including in the gift shops at all four theme parks, Disney Resort hotels and Disney Springs.

What is this? Disney World Annual Passholders also no longer receive complimentary MagicBands. Instead, MagicBands are available 20%-50% off in the annual passholder's My Disney Experience account after the annual pass purchase and each renewal period.

What is MagicMobile? MagicMobile is a free feature of the My Disney Experience smartphone app that turns your phone into a MagicBand.

You can use your phone. Create a Magic Mobile pass within the My Disney Experience app. As long as you're using your phone to only scan in YOURSELF (meaning not you AND the other members of your party), then it should be fine. It might be slower than using a MagicBand, but it still works.

But the full capabilities of the bands including linking your photos to your My Disney Experience account usually are unable to be performed after the battery runs about at around the 2-3 year mark.

You can buy MagicBands at many merchandise locations within the parks and at Disney Springs. Some of our favorite MagicBand locations are the Emporium on Main Street, U.S.A. at Magic Kingdom or World of Disney and Disney Pin Traders at Disney Springs.

MagicBand+ is rechargeable whereas MagicBand is not rechargeable (typically a 24-month lifespan). MagicBand+ is customizable for color, and vibrations, and has light-up interactions with evening entertainment like Fantasmic! and Happily Ever After.

If you are on a desktop computer, laptop, or tablet, visit the Walt Disney World website and select My Disney Experience at the top right corner of the screen. After you log in, select My Magic Bands and Cards. Any Magic Band(s) that you own and have previously linked should be visible on the screen.

Disney Bands are given to guests who are either staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel or are an Annual Pass-holder. If you are staying outside of a Walt Disney World Resort you can still buy your band at the park.

Implementation. Until January 1, 2021, MagicBands were free to all Disney Resort guests. Until August 16, 2021, the bands were free to annual passholders. While other guests receive an RFID-enabled Key to the World card, they are able to purchase a MagicBand online or at the parks.

They run off of a small battery inside the band. Disney says the batteries are designed to last for 2 years. I have read of batteries lasting for up to five years. Since a Disney Magic Band is just a link to your My Disney Experience account, it can be used for many trips until the battery no longer works.
