Is Guardians of the Galaxy ride like Tower of Terror?

Built on the former Tower of Terror, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! is the same high-intensity thrill ride as before. What is very different, however, are the visual and audio effects.

Mechanically, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! is identical to the original Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney California Adventure, as it was built using the exact same "gantry lift" infrastructure and drop-tower technology. However, the "feel" of the ride is completely different. While Tower of Terror focused on "spooky" tension and a slow, psychological build-up to a vertical plunge, Mission: BREAKOUT! is designed to feel like a high-energy rock concert. In 2026, the ride features a "randomized" drop sequence synchronized to one of six classic 70s/80s pop songs (like "I Want You Back" or "Hit Me With Your Best Shot"). Instead of the rhythmic "plummet and rise" of the original, the Guardians version is more "springy" and unpredictable, with shorter "bounces" and faster accelerations. If you have a fear of heights or the "stomach-drop" sensation, both rides will be equally challenging, but many guests find the Guardians version less "scary" because the humorous storyline and loud music distract from the intensity of the falling sensation.

People Also Ask

Now, guests hear classic rock/pop songs from the Guardians of the Galaxy film soundtrack, and experience one of six drop sequences (meaning the ride should be different the first few times you ride it). The ride itself is shorter, faster and more intense than Tower of Terror was, but it's not a huge change.
