Is it a good idea to Interrail?

The trains come often, especially in Western Europe, so you have the absolute freedom to organize your Eurail schedule however you want! In my opinion, going on a European trip using a Eurail pass is a fantastic way of traveling, as it is much better than buses and often times faster and less stressful than planes!

In 2026, Interrailing remains one of the most rewarding ways to experience Europe, provided you value flexibility over speed. It is an excellent idea for travelers who want to visit multiple countries (3+) in a single trip without the hassle of airport security and baggage fees. With the "Global Pass" covering 33 countries, it offers incredible value for "slow travel." However, in 2026, it requires more planning than in previous decades due to mandatory seat reservations on high-speed lines (TGV, Frecciarossa, AVE), which can cost between €10 and €30 extra per leg. If your itinerary is strictly centered on major cities in France, Spain, or Italy, booking individual "Advance" tickets might actually be cheaper. Interrail is "worth it" primarily for its psychological freedom—the ability to hop on regional trains spontaneously. For 2026 travelers, the mobile "Rail Planner" app is indispensable, but those on a tight budget should cross-reference pass prices against budget airlines like Ryanair to ensure the rail pass truly aligns with their financial goals.
