As of 2026, Lufthansa is no longer officially ranked as a 5-star airline by Skytrax. The airline famously held the 5-star designation starting in 2017—making it the first and only European carrier to achieve the feat at the time—but it was downgraded to 4 stars in 2022. The downgrade was largely due to inconsistencies in their long-haul business class product, specifically the older "2-2-2" seating configuration which lacked direct aisle access for all passengers. However, Lufthansa is currently in the midst of a massive turnaround with the rollout of its "Allegris" cabin products. These new 5-star-aimed cabins feature a wide variety of suite options, including private "Business Class Suites" with sliding doors and vastly improved First Class "Suites Plus." While they are currently operating as a high-quality 4-star carrier, the massive investment in these new interiors is a clear attempt to regain their 5-star status by providing a more consistent and luxurious experience across their entire long-haul fleet, especially on their new Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 aircraft.
