Is New Star Wars ride scary?

As I mentioned, Rise can be scary and a little too much for some guests and children. Cast members do their best to be reassuring without breaking character in my experience. Rise of the Resistance is open for Early Theme Park Entry.

The newest flagship Star Wars attraction, Rise of the Resistance, is considered "thrilling and intense" but not traditionally "scary" like a horror-themed ride. It is a massive, 18-minute multi-phase experience that includes a trackless dark ride, a brief motion simulator, and a small, sudden vertical drop (about 20 feet). While the drop provides a "stomach-flip" sensation similar to a fast elevator, it is much milder than Tower of Terror. The "scary" elements are mostly atmospheric: being "interrogated" by First Order officers and facing off against full-scale AT-ATs and Kylo Ren animatronics. For younger children or those sensitive to loud noises and dark environments, the sheer scale and sensory overload might be intimidating. However, for most guests, the ride is a "stupefying wow" experience that focuses on immersion and cinematic storytelling rather than extreme physical frights.

Here is how Disney accomplishes the effect: As we indicated, the trackless ride vehicle is locked down onto a motion base. The motion base is then coupled with a drop tower-like mechanism to deliver a freefall. Think Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, but instead of a 199-foot drop, Rise drops perhaps 25 or 30 feet.
