How fast does the Tron ride go?

Walt Disney World's new Tron Lightcycle Run roller coaster immediately separates itself from the vacation destination's other thrill rides with a pulse-pounding launch that propels users, er, guests nearly 60 miles per hour.

TRON Lightcycle / Run at Magic Kingdom (and its sister attraction in Shanghai) reaches a maximum speed of 59.3 miles per hour (approx. 95.4 km/h). This makes it the fastest roller coaster in any Disney theme park in North America as of 2026. The ride uses a high-powered linear induction motor (LIM) launch to propel riders from 0 to its top speed in just seconds, immediately exiting the "Grid" building and soaring underneath the massive, color-shifting "Upload Conduit" canopy. While the top speed is impressive, the ride is known for being relatively smooth rather than "jerky," focusing more on the sensation of speed and "leaning into" the curves on the unique motorbike-style ride vehicles. Because of the intense launch and high-speed turns, the ride has a height requirement of 48 inches (122 cm). Despite the speed, the actual ride duration is quite short, lasting about 60 seconds from the initial launch to the final brake run.

TRON does move up and down a fair bit, but there's very little of that “stomach-drop” feeling with your feet leaving the floor. That's for two reasons. The first is that on a Lightcycle your head points down, not your feet. But the bigger reason is that almost all of TRON's rise-and-drop motion includes a turn.

It's super fun but it's not an 'extreme' ride. Tron is definitely not a family coaster. It has a height restriction of 48 first of all, and the launch is as intense as many extreme coasters. Seven Dwarfs and Slinky Dog are family coasters.

The TRON ride vehicles — or Lightcycles — are similar to a motorcycle. Like the vehicles on Avatar Flight of Passage in Animal Kingdom, you will lean forward when you board, with leg restraints that come down around the back of your calves. The back of the seat will come down to secure you in as well.

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror If we're talking about the scariest rides at Disney World, I had to start with The Tower of Terror. I mean, it's all in the name! From the ghostly holograms, the 'death' defying drop(s) to the sinister theming, everything is designed to scare the Mickey outta you – and it really does.

You will lean much farther forward, with weight applied to your knees on TRON. If you have difficulty fitting into the seats on the Avatar ride, you may not fit on the TRON motorbikes. If you fit on Avatar, you still may not fit on TRON.

Overall milder than Guardians. Tron is somewhere in between what you seem to be ok with or not. Lots of fun. It feels fast, but smoother than Big Thunder and Space Mountain.

At the end of the day, if your child doesn't like thrill rides, TRON is not the one for them. However, even children who DO like thrill rides may find this one too intimidating, loud, or intense. If you don't know whether your child likes thrill rides, this is not a good starter coaster.

There are no inversions, but the launch can be a little scary if they haven't done something like that before, and inside the show building things are pretty dark, so that may be frightening for younger riders.

In our opinion, the VelociCoaster is without a doubt the most intense ride at Universal Orlando resort which is the main reason why we graded it a 10/10 on the thrill scale above. This Jurassic Park inspired roller coaster shoots riders through two launches, clocking in at over 70 MPH.
