Is Slinky dog fast?

Slinky Dog Dash can look as if it's going to be a truly intense experience. The track is elevated, without scenery or props or mountains or anything on either side of it. But surprise! It's a gentle ride, with turns, dips, and hills providing the excitement and a top speed of 40 mph.

Slinky Dog Dash at Disney's Hollywood Studios is considered a "family-friendly" launch coaster, and while it isn't "fast" by extreme thrill-seeker standards, it reaches a respectable top speed of approximately 40 mph (64 km/h). For comparison, it is faster than Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (34 mph) but slower than Rock 'n' Roller Coaster (57 mph) or Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind (60 mph). The sensation of speed is amplified by the fact that the coaster is "outdoors" and features two distinct launches—one at the beginning and a second "booster" launch in the middle of the ride. The second launch uses a "pull-back" effect where the Slinky Dog train coils up before springing forward over a series of "camelback" hills. Because the track is elevated and offers views of the entire Toy Story Land, the wind and the heights make it feel more exhilarating for children and casual riders. It is designed to be a "bridge" coaster—thrilling enough for adults to enjoy but gentle enough to be the "first big coaster" for many young children, provided they meet the 38-inch height requirement.

What is this? If you can only ride Slinky Dog Dash once, I suggest skipping it while it's light out and coming back to it after dark. While there is more to see at Toy Story Land during the day, the nighttime feel is a bit more magical. It's cooler too, or (in the summertime at least) not so hot in the evening.
