A cap limits how much you pay for all your journeys in one day or week. You can make as many journeys as you like and when all your fares add up to a certain amount, we won't charge you more (your fare is automatically capped).

Using an Oyster card works out cheaper than buying a paper ticket every time you want to travel by tube as fares are cheaper when you touch in with an Oyster. You can add some credit to your Oyster using a pay-as-you-go system, which means money is only taken off when you employ the contactless card.
If you only have pay as you go credit on your Oyster card, you can lend it to someone else. Two people can't use the same contactless or Oyster card for a journey. If you have a Travelcard, Bus & Tram Pass or discount added to your Oyster card, you can't lend it to someone else.

The PAYG Oyster card is the cheapest and most flexible way to pay for travel, especially if your visit to London is between 1–5 days. Even if it's only for a few journeys, it's much cheaper than paying the full cash fare.
An Oyster Card will also save you money compared to using a Bus & Tram Pass to ride the buses and trams, which don't accept individual tickets or cash any longer. Oyster cards also have a capping system, which can save you even more money.
