What app should I use to book trains in Italy?

Trenìt! is the most popular app to search for trains schedules and prices in Italy, available for Android, iOS and Web (www. trenit. app).

For booking trains in Italy, you have several excellent options. The best choice depends on whether you prefer an official source, a third-party aggregator, or a specific feature.

Here’s a breakdown of the top apps, from most recommended to alternatives:

Top Recommendation: Trenitalia & Italo

These are the official apps for Italy’s two main train operators. For the most reliable fares, schedules, and ticket management, use these.

  1. Trenitalia (Official App)

    • Covers: The national rail network, including high-speed Frecciarossa, Frecciargento, Intercity, and regional trains. This is your app for almost all routes.
    • Best for: Most travelers, as it has the widest network. You can book months in advance, see real-time platform info, and manage tickets offline (PDF saved in app).
    • Tip: Look for “Super Economy” and “Economy” fares for the cheapest high-speed tickets (they sell out).
  2. Italo (Official App)

    • Covers: Italo’s private high-speed network between major cities (e.g., Rome, Milan, Florence, Venice, Naples).
    • Best for: Travel between major cities. Often has competitive prices and modern trains. Check both Italo and Trenitalia for the best deal on your route.

Excellent Third-Party Aggregator

These apps compare both operators and often have a great user interface.

  1. Trainline
    • Covers: Both Trenitalia and Italo trains, plus buses and other
