What is the difference between Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge?

As much as these resorts have similar names and somewhat similar theming they are still very different. One is luxurious bringing you an upscale wilderness feel whereas the other brings you closer to nature and the outdoors. It really depends on what you are looking for with your Disney vacation.

Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground is a themed camping resort located in the Magic Kingdom Resort Area at the Walt Disney World Resort in the U.S. state of Florida. It officially opened on November 19, 1971. The resort is situated adjacent to Bay Lake, near Disney's Wilderness Lodge.

Fort Wilderness is in the Moderate Resort category, so unfortunately, Guests staying at the campground are not eligible for this benefit.

An easy way to see some of the Magic Kingdom fireworks is to head for the Fort Wilderness beach. They will pipe in the music each night and although it isn't a clear view, as you have the old Discovery Island between you and the park, you can still see quite a bit above the tree line.

Off-peak times fall around January, February, September, and early November. Discounts on vacation packages booked directly through Disney (which combine park tickets and hotel stays) can be found year-round, though they're most common at these less-crowded times.

You are allowed to make a reservation at the Fort Wilderness Campsites for 30 consecutive days. You can then make another reservation to begin on the day of the check-out for the first reservation and do that for another 30 days. You can actually do this for as long as you wish.

There are tons of places on Fort Wilderness property where you can take the golf carts, but there is not a designated pathway for carts to get to Disney's Wilderness Lodge. There is a walking trail you can take that is about a mile long and is quite beautiful.

Basic Laws of Navigation in Fort Wilderness You can no longer drive your car around to explore (and there's no place to park anyway), the trams are gone, and the train has long, long vanished (sad face). So your options for moving about are: golf cart (best option!) – rent or bring your own.
