Steel Vengeance, located at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio, stands at a maximum height of 205 feet (62.5 meters). When it opened in 2018, it shattered ten world records, including being the world's first "hyper-hybrid" roller coaster—a category created specifically for it because it combines a wooden support structure with a smooth steel "I-Box" track and exceeds the 200-foot height threshold. The ride features a 90-degree initial drop that plunges riders 200 feet back down toward the ground at a top speed of 74 miles per hour. Designed by Rocky Mountain Construction (RMC), the coaster is built over the remains of the former Mean Streak wooden coaster. In addition to its impressive height, Steel Vengeance is famous for having the most "airtime" of any roller coaster in the world, totaling 27.2 seconds of weightlessness throughout its 5,740-foot-long course. Because of its extreme height and aggressive maneuvers, the ride has a strict 52-inch height requirement for passengers and utilizes a complex safety system including lap bars, shin restraints, and seatbelts to ensure riders are securely fastened as they navigate the four inversions and numerous banked turns.
