You'll be living in the fast laneYour ride starts out with a launch from 0 to 57 mph in a matter of seconds. This makes it the third fastest roller coaster at Disney World, after Tron Lightcycle/Run and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
Overall milder than Guardians. Tron is somewhere in between what you seem to be ok with or not. Lots of fun. It feels fast, but smoother than Big Thunder and Space Mountain.
At the end of the day, if your child doesn't like thrill rides, TRON is not the one for them. However, even children who DO like thrill rides may find this one too intimidating, loud, or intense. If you don't know whether your child likes thrill rides, this is not a good starter coaster.
On the main Disney World page for Tron, it's described as having 'Big Drops'. This just seems odd to me, as everything I have read/seen about the ride describes it as fairly tame (minus the launch) with no real big drops, certainly no more than Guardians of the Galaxy which is listed as 'Small Drops'.
If you or your kids are afraid of going upside down on roller coasters, we have some good news! What is this? TRON Lightcycle Run does not go upside down or have any inversions.
The Twilight Zone Tower of TerrorIf we're talking about the scariest rides at Disney World, I had to start with The Tower of Terror. I mean, it's all in the name! From the ghostly holograms, the 'death' defying drop(s) to the sinister theming, everything is designed to scare the Mickey outta you – and it really does.
Tron is somewhere in between what you seem to be ok with or not. Lots of fun. It feels fast, but smoother than Big Thunder and Space Mountain. Tron is definitely not a family coaster.
With top speeds of just under 60 miles per hour, TRON Lightcycle/Run is one of the fastest rides in Walt Disney World and certainly the fastest roller coaster you will find in Magic Kingdom. For comparison, its neighbor Space Mountain reaches half that maximum speed at 27 miles per hour.
Walt Disney World's latest roller coaster does not disappoint. Walt Disney World's new Tron Lightcycle Run roller coaster immediately separates itself from the vacation destination's other thrill rides with a pulse-pounding launch that propels users, er, guests nearly 60 miles per hour.
If you have a thrill seeker who enjoys speed, Tron will not be too scary for them. One thing to note: it's a relatively short ride that truly only lasts 60 seconds once in motion. So even if Tron turns out to be scary, it should be a very short experience.
If so, TRON should be on your list! It's not the fastest ride in Disney World (that title goes to Test Track, which tops out at about 65 MPH), but it's pretty close. During the initial launch, TRON riders get close to hitting 60 MPH. Essentially, it's about as fast as if you were riding a motorcycle on the highway.
I fit great on the test seats and had an easy time loading onto the ride itself. I did see a woman of a similar size as me for whom the test seats did not work, and I think it was because she had larger calves. The ride has a bar that drops behind your calves as a point of security.
The initial launch provides riders with that feeling of their stomach being left behind them — and can definitely trigger motion sickness. The ride starts inside, and within the first five seconds, you're outside. If you're light sensitive, this could be a trigger as well if you ride during the day.
