What is the most extreme roller coaster in Disney?

Expedition Everest is the tallest attraction at Disney World, and its drop is the longest and most intense of the roller coasters.

As of 2026, the title of "most extreme" Disney roller coaster is a close contest between Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT and the Incredicoaster at Disney California Adventure. Cosmic Rewind is arguably the most technologically intense, featuring a reverse launch and a "rotating" ride vehicle that orients you toward the action while moving at high speeds in the dark. However, for "old-school" intensity, the Incredicoaster remains the only Disney coaster in the U.S. to feature a vertical loop and a high-speed catapult launch that hits 55 mph. Another major contender is Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios (which recently received a "Muppets" themed refresh in 2026), known for its 0-to-57 mph launch in less than three seconds and three inversions in total darkness. If you measure "extreme" by height and drop, Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom is the winner, featuring an 80-foot drop and a section where the train travels backward at high speed. For a grounded recommendation, Cosmic Rewind is the most "thrilling" modern experience, but Incredicoaster provides the most traditional "extreme" G-forces.

TRON does move up and down a fair bit, but there's very little of that “stomach-drop” feeling with your feet leaving the floor. That's for two reasons. The first is that on a Lightcycle your head points down, not your feet. But the bigger reason is that almost all of TRON's rise-and-drop motion includes a turn.

There's nothing slow about this ride. If you have a thrill seeker who enjoys speed, Tron will not be too scary for them. One thing to note: it's a relatively short ride that truly only lasts 60 seconds once in motion. So even if Tron turns out to be scary, it should be a very short experience.

The TRON ride vehicles — or Lightcycles — are similar to a motorcycle. Like the vehicles on Avatar Flight of Passage in Animal Kingdom, you will lean forward when you board, with leg restraints that come down around the back of your calves. The back of the seat will come down to secure you in as well.
